CALEA AccreditationKLEAP Accreditation

In 2013, the Andover Police Department achieved its initial accreditation from CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies), showcasing adherence to a comprehensive set of over 360 police standards derived from leading practices in law enforcement nationwide. A subsequent 4-day assessment in December 2015 reaffirmed our department's compliance, leading to re-accreditation on April 2, 2016.

Nearly four years later, in December 2019, both the Police Department and the E-911 Emergency Communications Center underwent another rigorous on-site assessment. On March 19, 2020, the Andover Police Department was granted re-accreditation and bestowed CALEA's "Advanced Law Enforcement Accreditation." Furthermore, CALEA’s board of commissioners approved the Andover E-911 Emergency Communications Center's initial accreditation, making it the first communications center in Kansas to achieve national accreditation. These achievements attest to the dedication of the personnel who uphold these standards daily.

In December of 2023, the Andover Police Department and the E-911 Emergency Communications Center underwent another thorough evaluation process to reaffirm our commitment to excellence. Following the comprehensive on-site assessment, once again presenting our adherence to the stringent CALEA standards, the Andover Police Department received reaccreditation in 2024, solidifying our status as a leading law enforcement agency. Simultaneously, the E-911 Emergency Communications Center also earned reaccreditation, further cementing its position as a pioneer in emergency communication services.

Also in 2023, our agency achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first agency to receive initial accreditation through KLEAP (Kansas Law Enforcement Accreditation Program). This achievement stands as a testament to our commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and service. Additionally, we were recently reaccredited through KLEAP in 2024, following our reaccreditation from CALEA, proving our continued adherence to these standards and our ongoing pursuit of excellence in law enforcement. These successive reaccreditations underscore Andover's unwavering dedication to maintaining the highest level of public safety and community service.

About CALEACALEA Logo

    • CALEA was established as an independent accrediting authority in 1979 by the four major national law enforcement associations whose members represent approximately 80% of the law enforcement profession in this nation. They include: International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP); National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE); National Sheriff’s Association (NSA); and Police Executive Research Forum (PERF). CALEA derives its accreditation authority from those agencies that voluntarily participate in the accreditation program. Its goal is to improve the delivery of law enforcement services to the public by offering a body of standards, developed by law enforcement practitioners, covering a wide range of up-to-date law enforcement topics.

  • In July of 2021, the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC) applied for and was awarded a grant with the goal of establishing a state-level accreditation program for law enforcement agencies in Kansas. At the time of application, Kansas was one of only 14 states that did not have a state-level law enforcement accreditation program. The Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police (KACP) and the Kansas Sheriff’s Association (KSA) appointed three Law Enforcement Executive Officers from each organization to sit on the Council as Board Members, and in February of 2022, the Kansas Accreditation Council was established.
